Maggie wanted a senior session that reflected her Bohemian style. As I followed her to her secret hideout, I knew this shoot would be special. The views were amazing and Maggie was completely at home with her guitar, the water and her trees. The blanket that had been her mother's in high school was the only other prop we needed. Mother earth had not only given us a beautiful day, but had painted all our backdrops magnificently. It was a very good day...

In honor of Veteran's Day, I'm posting a few pictures I took in D.C. at Arlington Cemetery back in April of this year. While we were there, a military funeral was taking place. You'll see the pictures that are at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. If the you haven't seen the Changing of the Guard at Arlington, I highly suggest it. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is guarded at all times by Sentinels and has been every night and day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since 1937. No matter the weather, the closing of the cemetery or an emergency event is the Tomb not guarded. While we were there they told us that even on September 11 the Sentinels continued the Changing of the Guard. They were given permission to stop because of what was happening that day, but they chose to stay. I found the history of the Sentinel fascinating.

So in honor of Veteran's Day, I celebrate all soldiers - past, present and future. To you, we are grateful. I also celebrate and thank my own father, Jack Sisemore - seeker of freedom, Marine and purple heart recipient as he at one time was Recon in Vietnam behind enemy lines and logged more missions than he'll ever care to talk about. (I love you!) To my 2 nephews, one a Marine and one Army, who just returned from Afghanistan and Iraq - we thank you.

Ahhhh, Day Dreamy Sessions...I love them. Children playing dress up - getting their hair and make-up done by our stylist, AnnaLivia www.annaliviastyles.com who is a child at heart herself. I'm not sure what I enjoy the most - the actual photographing or the editing of the photos. I especially enjoyed the finishing of these particular photos. What a fun day! And my new micro Pomeranian puppy even jumped in for a few shots.

This session I'm especially partial to - he's my nephew. I spent 9 months thinking about all the creative ways I'd photograph him once he arrived. I bought chairs, new blankets, props - But, babies will be babies and he came fully programmed to not cooperate for his newborn photos! That's just as well - he will have a lifetime to get used to Auntie Mich and her camera being in his face. I'm a huge believer that everything is as should be - therefore these were the pictures we were supposed to get. Nothing extremely creative - just solid pictures of his adorable face and little hands. I'm secretly planning for his 3 month session. I hope he's ready!

Photographing Emily was very easy. She had a natural flow with the camera that just doesn't happen with everyone. That didn't surprise me, she is one of those people where things come to her without effort. Athlete, Singer and now, Model. I was so obsessed with photographing her face that we ran out of time, got caught in the rain and didn't get to finish our shoot! So we will complete this session sometime this month with some fun, sporty pics. Here are a few of my favorites. Callie and Tim

Some weddings I'm asked to photograph I go into with a few worries. A little stress; little hesitation. However, when I woke up that Saturday morning, my worries weren't of the usual sort. Instead of fretting about capturing the sentimental moment, I was more concerned about the very real possibility of a member of the wedding party dying from heat stroke. A tasty 100F with an equal amount of award winning humidity, I was more concerned about a groomsman stroking out than finding the perfect shot at magic hour.

However, there was one thing I didn't have to worry about. My subjects. Tim and Callie are beautiful. Their friends are gorgeous. Everyone in attendance looked straight out of central casting (IMAGINARY CALL TO CASTING DIRECTOR: Can you get me a diverse crowd of wildly different age groups, ethnicities, shapes and sizes? But make them all really good-looking? I know it's probably impossible. IMAGINARY WEDDING COORDINATOR: I've got the perfect wedding!)

It's not just that Callie and Tim are pretty/handsome - it's that their families are beautiful. Some of the grandmothers should be lingerie models.:) It makes my job so much easier.

Callie is a family friend so this shoot was definitely a work of love. It was a distinct honor to document such an important event in the lives of people I love so much. I'm ecstatic that the photos came out so fantastic - I wish you could see all 1300 of them! I've dedicated this opening picture to Tim and the men of Callie and Tim's wedding - I figured it was only fair since Callie has a blog dedicated to just her...:)

Kenzie

We love shooting newborns. Especially when we get to follow them as they grow and become little humans. The last time we saw little Kenzie, she was less than a week old (see our welcome blog.) She is now an adorable 4-1/2 month old who loves to watch her big brother, Trey, as he plays and pouts and randomly tries to kiss her cheek. These shots were taken at the Plurabella-Swan Lake location due to the fact that it was 112 degrees outside on this particular day. Very thankful for air conditioning with these little ones! Check back with us towards Christmas! I'm thinking about wrapping her up in a big bow - she is ADORABLE!

heARTistic expressions

I believe I became a photographer because I couldn't become what I truly wanted to be...a painter. Modern computer software tools allow me to treat my photos as a canvas and I get to play with color and textures very much like a painter.

Several years ago, I shared with my business partner, Ed, that I would like to do some art to life pictures. One of the artists that first came to my mind was the brilliant Frida Kahlo. I've always adored her work and found it so visceral, passionate and infused with so much feeling. I wanted to do "my" version of these photos and on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago, I did just that. They aren't identical - they aren't supposed to be. These photos are the start of a series that I hope to one day share in a gallery setting. Hope you enjoy them as much as I had creating them.

Plurabella is now offering HEARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS... We want our clients to be able to recreate pieces of art or scenes from a movie that they have always loved and cherished. (Although there is similarity in looks with my versions of Frida - looking similar is not necessary to bring into being your favorite iconic art.) Upcoming HEARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS sessions include Twiggy/Edie Sedgwick and Shirley Temple. We just finished up the couch and necklace scene from the Titanic. Our client may not let us post them, although they are absolutely gorgeous! Email us for information!

Kelsey + Jerrod = Love

It's not often that we get to revisit a special event. Weddings, births, graduations...they come and the moment's gone. However, in the case of Kelsey and Jerrod's wedding we got to hop into the Delorean and hit 88mph - and went "back to the future."

They wisely decided to not shoot their wedding portraits the day of their wedding - they wanted to relax and have fun with their family and friends on that special day. By waiting until later to shoot their formal session, the photos completely confirm what a wonderful idea that was.

We got to capture their natural state - down-to-earth, wonderful people who deeply love each other. We shot them very close to my home so the session turn out to be more of a family picnic. They don't pretend to be anything other than what they are...a loving family. You can't look at these photos and not get that. Congratulations Jerrod and Kelsey! We are looking forward to being a part of many of your milestones! Plurabella Loves You! Here are some of our favorites!

Ivey Simone

Little Miss Ivey Simone was 5 days old when we had the honor of photographing her. She slept soundly in her mother's arms in-between shots and never cried. She was the center of attention as her mother, grandmother and sister surrounded her to make sure she was okay with all the moving of furniture and opening of windows that we were doing.

It's nice when we have the opportunity of being able to be inside the client's home. The shots we choose mean more. The client doesn't feel rushed and it just flows.

The walls of Ivey's nursery are white, but decorated for a future diva - with baby linens that any adult would love to have. Ivey's mom and sister are as pretty as she is and we wanted to give them very soft, lifestyle photos that they would treasure forever.
